The story of Fionn McCumhaill and his 2 wayward pet hounds

Irish wildlife fionn mccumhaill irish folklore

The story goes that the mythical hero Fionn mac Cumhaill and his band of warriors the Fianna hunted a beautiful deer known as Aileen for two days and two nights all over the Kingdom of Munster. By the morning of the third day as they approached the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare only Finn himself and his two hounds, Vicious and Violence, remained in pursuit.
But while Fionn was paying for parking the deer and the hounds disappeared from view never to be seen again. It is said that if you stand on the cliff top on the morning of the winter solstice you can hear Vicious and Violence howling in the distance.

Here at Irishtshirts.ie our design ‘V-Dogs’ commemorates this story of old.
